The Houston Texans had their first padded practice of training camp.
Here are 11 observations from the workout.
The offense had a good start to the day. C.J. Stroud had success in the 7-on-7 portion and the initial team period. Then the defense started to get going. The defense made everything tough, no matter who was on the field. Offensive success became hard to come by. If we scored it like a combat sport, it was a win by unanimous decision for the defense overall on the day.
Stroud made some quick decisions for positive plays. He started the day with a quick toss to his left, finding receiver Xavier Hutchinson. If Stroud had held the ball a bit longer, he would’ve seen rookie tight end Marlin Klein flying down the middle of the field wide open. The defenders had lost the big tight end. Stroud tossed a touchdown on a play that took a while to develop. He had a quick strike to Nico Collins near the front of the end zone. The defense made it a tough day for the passing offense. Stroud rushed in a touchdown from a few yards out on a play that devolved into chaos at the line of scrimmage.
