The Houston Texans hosted their first day of rookie minicamp on Friday. Here are 11 observations from the light workout.

  1. DeMeco Ryans stressed teaching for the rookie minicamp. He said they use the two days with the rookies to teach them how the Houston Texans operate. It is an acclimation period before the young players are integrated into the rest of the team. Ryans stressed the coaching staff has to do a good job teaching each player the best way for that individual player. Ryans also said new offensive coordinator Nick Caley has done an excellent job connecting with the team. He called Caley thorough and detailed in his approach and said Caley’s energy is infectious.

  2. Jayden Higgins stood out on the field with his size. He is, of course, tall at 6’4”, but he looked wider in the shoulders than he did on video. Higgins didn’t reveal
