The Houston Texans lost their second preseason game to the Las Vegas Raiders 22-20. The final score matters little. The overall performance was better than last week. A lot more starters played, and the results were good.
Here are 11 observations from the game.
The opening drive for the Texans was fantastic. I know it wasn’t the top defenders for the Raiders, but the Texans executed well. Offensive coordinator Nick Caley leaned into the rushing attack. He followed it up with plays that let his quarterback make sound decisions. My favorite part was on third and long, the offense didn’t shy away from going for the sticks. Too many times last season the plays had throws behind the line to gain. Not during this drive. The operation looked smooth, though a Raiders penalty looked to have bailed the Texans out as they headed to the line of scrimmage with just a few seconds left on the play clock. It was a drive that was put together so well, most of the participants were done for the night.
