11 Observations from the Preseason Opener Against the Chargers
Plenty to like and plenty to clean up from this one
The Houston Texans lost their preseason debut to the Los Angeles Chargers 27-7. The game was 10-7 at halftime, but the backups played poorly in the second half. A lot of players who won’t be affecting game days in September played, so I am not too worried about the disappointing second half and final score.
Here are 11 observations from the game.
The first offensive possession of the night was the best for the Texans. Davis Mills led a drive that covered 75 yards in 11 plays. The Texans had success on the ground and through the air. Mills was well protected. The rush with Xavier Hutchinson as the first play was a cheeky call from offensive coordinator Nick Caley. A ticky-tack penalty helped the Texans out on their fourth-down try. Mills missed a wide-open Hutchinson who would’ve walked in for a touchdown, but a defender was a little handsy with another pass catcher. Mills would finish the scoring drive a few plays later.
Running back Noah Whittington was one of the brightest spots of the night.
