11 Players to Watch in the Preseason Opener for the Texans
Be on the lookout for these 11 players in tonight's game
The preseason opener is finally here for the Houston Texans. They play in the Hall of Fame Game against the Chicago Bears in Canton, OH. The Texans have 10 training camp practices under their belt ahead of this first of four preseason games.
The starters are not expected to play tonight. This, to me, means Kamari Lassiter will not be playing. He should be considered a starter with his success in camp and if the regular season started tomorrow he would be opposite Derek Stingley. Rookie left tackle Blake Fisher could probably use the reps, but I wouldn’t expect him tonight either. I obviously will be excited for Cade Stover but he’s on the team and not in a battle for depth chart positioning.
This list of 11 players to watch for tonight’s game focuses on players battling for a roster spot or trying to solidify their depth chart positioning.
#31 Running Back Dameon Pierce
The Texans need Dameon Pierce to establish himself as the backup running back. There aren’t any options that inspire confidence behind him and the ability to add one to the roster where that player could make a difference is slim. Pierce started camp solid but the rushing attack for the whole team has had trouble getting going in practice. Let’s see if a game changes their ability to gel and get the ball moving on the ground.
#8 Wide Receiver John Metchie
If I was putting the roster together for the regular season I don’t believe I would put John Metchie on the team. The explosiveness is irregular. He doesn’t consistently separate. He’s had some drops. The competition for a spot at wide receiver is far from over but Metchie could use some positive outcomes to get him closer to some of his peers at the position.
