Anthony Richardson Presents Perfect Challenge and Opportunity for Texans
The Colts are coming to town at the right time for the Texans
They lost their season opener. The defense disappointed in the second half allowing three scoring drives. The rookie quarterback looked outmatched by the opposing team’s heralded quarterback savior. The first time out for the brand new coach looking to usher in a new era was defeat.
I’m talking about the Colts. Or is it the Texans?
The two season openers were wildly similar. The Colts scored more points. The Texans had a better performance on defense.
Now the two AFC South foes meet in week two with winning on their mind.
Recently Facing the Future
The Texans played the hopeful outcome of Anthony Richardson’s talent. Lamar Jackson can now make any throw he needs to make. He uses his dynamic rushing ability judiciously and expertly, not frequently out of necessity.
The Colts played the hopeful outcome of C.J. Stroud’s abilities. Trevor Lawrence can make every throw. He reads defenses quicker than ever now and his mobility to extend plays is a weapon he’s had to harness with a shaky offensive line.
It’s not the same as facing the real thing, just like Dr. Thunder isn’t quite like Dr Pepper. But there’s certainly some carryover for each team.
“They’re similar,” Will Anderson said when asked Monday about using the Baltimore prep to ready for Richardson. “They’re both running quarterbacks but can also use their arms because they have cannon arms.”
