Bobby Slowik Accountable in Face of Offensive Adversity
The offensive coordinator knows they can be better
The Houston Texans are one of the worst offenses in football in the third quarter…and they know it.
“That has been an emphasis for us,” said offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik about the team’s failures to succeed out of halftime. “We have also emphasized coming out of half and the game we emphasized it the most was New England. That showed up and we executed well.”
That’s about the only time it has shown up.
The Texans have had 22 possessions begin in the third quarter this season. Three of those possessions resulted in touchdowns and five ended in a field goal. The rest were punts. Houston is punting nearly 64% of the time in the third quarter. They’re 21st in third quarter scoring.
Whatever secret stuff was said at halftime of the game against the Patriots needs to be spoken again.
“We adjust scheme pretty consistently as we go through a game, I would say every game. We react to what they are doing, and they react to what we are doing. It is never things we haven’t seen before.”
Slowik said they need to find their mentality coming out of halftime.
Houston also needs to find some better blocking.
