Derek Stingley's Injury Reignites Questions about 2022 NFL Draft
What led the Texans to the position they're in now?
Derek Stingley is hurt. Again. It’s his hamstring. Again.
The third overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft saw his season end in 2022 via a hamstring injury. KPRC reports it will be more than a few games that he’s set to miss with this newest injury. The Houston Chronicle reported it could be four weeks.
Regardless of how long, this is what happens when a player has durability concerns before they enter the NFL.
Stingley missed three games in 2020 at LSU and missed 10 games in his final year in college. The Texans selected him anyway. Injury concerns be damned.
The pick after Stingley was cornerback Sauce Gardner. Heading into the draft Gardner had missed just one game in his college career at Cincinnati playing every game his final year in college.
Gardner would win the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and was an All-Pro for the Jets in his first season. Derek Stingley played nine fine games for the Texans.
Why did the Texans prefer Stingley?
