Diggs Done for the Year Creates Variety of Problems
The Texans will have a tough week without him
Stefon Diggs is done for the season with an ACL injury. DeMeco Ryans announced the star wide receiver was finished for the season on Tuesday.
One of the biggest offseason acquisitions for the team was easily the third-best skill position player on the team behind only Nico Collins and Joe Mixon. It was working out as the Texans intended until a player who never gets hurt got hurt.
The injury came at one of the worst times on the schedule. Houston has a short week ahead of a Thursday Night Football contest on the road with the New York Jets. Collins is still at least a week away from returning. The players set to replace Diggs have no real practices this week.
Ryans put on a brave face when asked about his reserves at wide receiver.
“We like the guys we have, and our guys have been here, they have been working to understand how we do things, what we do so we are excited to see who steps up next.”
Those guys are Robert Woods, Xavier Hutchinson, John Metchie, and Steven Sims.
Woods, who also has previously torn his ACL, said he knows teammates will initially rally for their fellow wideout as he’s finished for the season. Metchie and Hutchinson spoke confidently about who they are as wideouts now. Sims seems unlikely to factor into the equation much.
Then there is Tank Dell. He was occasionally the best wideout on the team a year ago before he broke his leg the week before the Texans headed to New York to play the Jets.
