The starting lineup on defense and offense is mostly set. We have a good idea of where most everyone is lining up when a game day arrives. There are a few spots up for grabs though. The Texans love competition. Head coach DeMeco Ryans preaches it.
Here are four position battles that will define training camp for the Texans.
Starting Cornerback Opposite Derek Stingley
C.J. Henderson, Jeff Okudah, and Kamari Lassiter are the contenders for this spot. The Texans desperately need one, and maybe even two players, to establish themselves as viable contenders for the position. Derek Stingley has a lengthy injury history and if the team could feel good about two players, it would give them a little breathing room if the injury bug reappeared for Stingley.
Lassiter looked the best in the spring workouts. The rookie was fast and fluid and hung close to Tank Dell, Stefon Diggs, and others. It isn’t wild to believe he can be a starter as a rookie. Henderson looked better than Okudah. The caveat with spring workouts is the media was allowed to see only a handful. The ones open to the media saw Henderson be better than Okudah. Both are former top picks who have disappointed to this point. DeMeco Ryans touted their length and athleticism as reasons the Texans like them. Training camp will be a great opportunity for Henderson and Okudah to battle with Lassiter for the starting spot.
