Joe Mixon's Already Extended Absence Could Be Even Longer
Thoughts on the initial 53 and practice squad for the Texans
The Houston Texans will be without Joe Mixon for at least four weeks of the regular season.
“We’ll take it one day at a time,” general manager Nick Caserio said. “We’ll evaluate those players [on injury lists] after four weeks and kind of see where they are in their progression and then make a determination.”
Mixon will not be able to practice during that time due to being on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans also said “one day at a time” when asked about Mixon.
Caserio declined to explain when the organization first became aware that Mixon would miss extended time.
“There’s no crystal ball out there,” Caserio said. “We build the team and take the information. Plan accordingly. Joe is not available right now. So, whenever he becomes available, we’ll talk about it at that point in time.”
Caserio offered “We’ll see” and “one day at a time” when asked if Mixon would play this season. Ryans echoed the general manager's sentiments in his own words.
Without a confirmation of Mixon playing this season, the range of possible outcomes must include Mixon missing the whole season.
