Light Day Before the Panthers Arrive | Training Camp Day 16 Recap
What to watch for as Carolina is in town for joint practice
The Houston Texans had a light practice ahead of their joint practice with the Carolina Panthers.
Here are four observations from the walkthrough.
Tytus Howard and Cam Robinson were both in uniform. They both participated in drills. Robinson did not do any of the team walkthrough elements. Howard was back at right tackle after missing snaps Tuesday in practice. Offensive coordinator Nick Caley said the team is still working to find its five starting linemen. He called them a highly competitive group. He said that when there is a clear separation from the five most consistent players, they will determine their starters. It will be interesting to see where Robinson slots when he has a real practice.
Caley had high praise for running back Dameon Pierce. Pierce missed over half of training camp working back from an injury. He had his first normal practice on Tuesday. Caley said he expects Pierce to stay within himself and not try to do too much after missing time. He said Pierce is a “physical, violent runner.” He said he’d been a fan of Pierce since Pierce’s time at Florida. Caley also said they will do whatever it takes to run the ball well, regardless of what scheme is required.
