Nick Caserio Sees Opportunity This Offseason for a Close Texans Team
The defense starts talking with the Texans at the combine
“When you look at our season, other than the Minnesota and the Baltimore game where we got our ass kicked we had a chance.”
Nick Caserio believes the Houston Texans are close. It’s his job this offseason to get them closer.
Entering his fifth season as the team’s general manager and his third with DeMeco Ryans Caserio has a chance to push his profile from good to great.
It’s a potential defining season for the team’s top executive.
He served as a resource for hiring the new offensive coordinator Nick Caley. The two overlapped in New England and Caserio spoke glowingly of the team’s new top offensive mind.
“Nick is very highly thought of in the league,” Caserio said from the scouting combine in Indianapolis. “He’s smart. He’s got a great attitude. He works really hard. He’s very flexible. He’s adaptable. He’s worked with a lot of different types of players and personalities.”
Caserio said the big thing for Caley now is to come in and figure out what he has on offense, create a vision for the offense, and start putting his stamp on how they will operate on offense.
If the Texans want to complement Caley’s offense, Caserio will have to create cap space. He dismissed the team's current limited space and explained that additional space is on the horizon.
Caserio’s handpicked offensive line was an issue in 2024. It’s been a glaring weakness for him during his tenure as the decision-maker. The best offensive lineman he’s added to the building was free agent George Fant. There’s still hope for young players like Juice Scruggs, Jarrett Patterson, and Blake Fisher but other players have been issues.
Shaq Mason was a huge issue. Tytus Howard’s inability to lock down the right tackle spot continues. Perhaps his biggest miss in the draft was Kenyon Green.
While all are on the roster Caserio knows the team will look different in the coming weeks.
