Notes and Analysis from Daniel Jeremiah's Pre-Combine Media Availability
The NFL Network's top analyst had plenty to say about players the Texans should look to target.
NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah hosted a media availability today. I was present for the duration of the two hours. Here are some of the comments that stood out to me and a few thoughts on what Jeremiah had to say.
Jeremiah was asked about the evaluation of C.J. Stroud last year. Here are his full comments.
“With C.J. I knew he was a really gifted thrower. The combine last year I said was as good a combine session as I’ve ever seen from a quarterback. Always on balance. Every type of throw. Always using the amount of pace on the ball that’s necessary. Not more. Not less. He was outstanding as a thrower. I thought with him, prior to the Georgia game was ‘ok can well he create? He’s kind of a stationary guy. Can he create and use his athleticism?’ And then the Georgia game showed you in that game absolutely he can do that.
“To be able to play as fast as he has, I don’t know that I have ever seen a rookie come in and see everything so clearly and play with just ultimate confidence. I don’t know that I’ve seen a rookie do that and trusting what he sees like that. To me, I don’t know if anybody could have predicted it would be that good that fast. Congrats to the Texans. They hit an absolute home run.”
The fearlessness from C.J. Stroud was one of the best elements of the season and I am excited to see him continue to grow in that area. Adding weapons who can succeed when he does take those risky throws should be a goal this offseason.
Below I have added bullets from Jeremiah with some of my thoughts following summaries of his points.
Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin earned a TON of praise from Jeremiah. He said Franklin just “runs by everybody” and when he studies cornerbacks he sees Franklin produce some bad reps for those cornerbacks. He called him a homerun hitter and he believes Franklin will get drafted in the 20’s or 30s.
