Offensive Ineptitude Dooms the Houston Texans Again
The Texans got into the red zone but the end zone eluded them. Again.
The Houston Texans are 3-5 after their loss to the Denver Broncos 18-15.
Here are 11 observations from the last-second loss.
Offensive ineptitude again. DeMeco Ryans wasn’t thrilled with the poor offensive showing after the game, regardless of who his quarterback was in the game. The red zone execution was putrid. Ryans noted they have to be better in the red zone. He harped on third-down failures from this team. The Texans converted three third downs on their first drive and didn’t convert a third down the rest of the day. Ryans was even lost for words at one point, ultimately saying they just couldn’t move the football.
C.J. Stroud got hurt at the start of the second quarter. He scrambled and got hit as he slid. He was evaluated for a concussion and did not return to the game. Ryans said he thought the play should have been a 15-yard penalty on the Broncos. Davis Mills was his replacement, but Mills eventually failed to move the ball as the Broncos quickly adjusted to him. It might be easy to say the Texans win this with Stroud, but we will never know. It certainly doesn’t take the loss off their record. It was another game where the defense played well enough to win, and the offense is to blame for losing.
