The Houston Texans (0-2) head to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars (1-1) still looking for their first win of the season. Let’s take a look at some of the keys to the game.

Debut Day for Ward

Jimmie Ward is expected to make his debut for the Houston Texans against the Jaguars. Ward has been sidelined with a hip injury but he practiced all week including fully practicing on Thursday and Friday.

Ward was one of the most important additions this offseason. He is extremely solid at the safety spot and will bring sure tackling the team has lacked this season. The communication he helps with is important too.

DeMeco Ryans lauded how much Ward will help with communication. Ryans also explained the role communication plays in making sure the defense executes this weekend.

“It calms everything down, especially when there’s a lot of chaos going on, when there’s movement going on,” Ryans said. “With a lot of offenses that we see, when there’s jam-motion, shifts – guys are moving all over the place. When you have great communication from the linebacker spot to the safety spot, it just calms everything down, so that’s what the communication means. It calms guys down, so you don’t have a cloudy mind – you’re clear so you can go play as fast as possible.”

Ward getting healthy is finally something good from the injury report for this team. While Jalen Pitre is still down, Ward and Eric Murray along with M.J. Stewart should combine to have better safety play than what we saw against the Colts in week two.
