Should the Texans Use Their Franchise Tag?
The team has a handful of players who they could keep from hitting free agency
Today is when teams can begin placing the franchise tag on their players.
The franchise tag prevents a player from hitting free agency and gets said player a guaranteed contract for the upcoming season. The contract is either 120% of their previous year’s salary or the average of the top five highest-paid players at their position. The player receives whichever amount is larger. Teams can continue negotiating a contract with the players to replace the franchise tag figure.
