Stefon Diggs Speaks on New Home as Minicamp Gets Underway
The 11 observations and then some from the first day of mandatory minicamp
The Houston Texan started their mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. It was a solid workout with some 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods towards the end of practice.
Here are 11 observations from the minicamp practice.
Stefon Diggs just gets open. He continues to be open and get the ball in these practices. You can see the defense be aware of where he is but there was one play where he went into motion and the defense just lost him, he caught a short pass and took off. He has the most to learn in the new offense with so many pieces back, but he will sometimes be a focal point. DeMeco Ryans said the team has received exactly what they thought they were getting in the acquisition.
Diggs was honest and open at the podium in his first appearance behind the microphone as a member of the Texans. He said he doesn’t take anything said about him to heart from people he doesn’t know. He said he loved his time in Buffalo. He also said he isn’t who he is as a player without Josh Allen. Diggs said he wants to win and knows now even a little more time working on his craft can be the difference so he stresses spending time on football to his teammates. As for the now-loaded offense, Diggs simply said to “let the horses run” and they will figure it out
Derek Stingley and Stefon Diggs is my favorite matchup in practice right now. It is best on best. Stingley defended Diggs on one 7-on-7 rep and read the play like a book. He still had to make a lunging stab to knock the ball away, but he got there. The one-on-one showdowns in training camp with depth at both positions will be fun.
