Stefon Diggs Trade Brings New Elements and Questions to Offense for Texans
There's a lot to like about the move to acquire the 4-time Pro Bowler
Nick Caserio is on fire right now.
A year ago this time the Houston Texans had one of the worst wide receiver rooms in football. Many believed it was a horrible spot to send a rookie quarterback to develop. Nico Collins was an injury-prone unproven one-trick pony. Robert Woods and Noah Brown were the “highlights” of the additions to the position.
The Texans might have the best 1-2-3 at wide receiver in the NFL just one year later.
Stefon Diggs has been one of the most consistent and productive wideouts over the past half-decade. Now he joins Nico Collins and Tank Dell to create a nightmare for opposing defenses. And that’s all before you factor in Dalton Schultz and Joe Mixon.
The trade to bring Diggs is a pivot from the failed Keenan Allen trade. Diggs is a better player than Allen and it only cost a little more than the rumored compensation offered for Allen. The contract is a little bigger, but we will talk about that later. Just a selection in the second round from Minnesota in next year’s draft? That’s all for a player of Diggs’ caliber? Great work from Caserio.
Let’s dig into what the addition of Diggs means for the Texans.
The Offensive Fit
Production is the name of the game for Diggs. Look at his last four seasons for the Bills.
Even though last season trailed off late, and was considered a down year, Diggs was still productive overall. He’s reliable. He doesn’t miss games. He gets open even when he’s the main wideout for his team.
