The Houston Texans lost to the New York Giants 27-21 in overtime. They dropped to 2-5.
Here are 11 observations from the loss.
This is one of the more disappointing losses under DeMeco Ryans. This was not a good New York Giants football team, but they looked better in every facet of the game save kicking field goals. They were better coached. Their offense was better. Their defense was better. Their stars played better. Their role players played better. The Giants showed what good coaching can accomplish. The Giants worked hard to minimize and hide their weaknesses. The Texans plowed forward as the flawed, deficiency-riddled mess they’ve been for most of the season. They seemed to lack energy early and competency throughout. Penalties, again, sunk offensive drives. They shouldn’t have made it to overtime, as the Giants left six points out there with missed kicks.
Overtime was putrid. The offense got nothing. A run to nowhere gave way to two pressured throws and a punt. Oh, and there was a holding call that got declined. After the punt, the Giants were winning three plays later. Cam Skattebo blasted through a hole the size of an 18-wheeler for 42 yards. He went down, but former Texans running back Devin Singletary picked him up on the next play. He scampered 30 yards for a game-winning score after multiple Texans couldn’t tackle him. It was an exclamation point on another poor defensive performance.
