Texans Draft Preview: Safety
The Texans could use some help at this position in 2024 and beyond
The Houston Texans could use a safety in the 2024 NFL Draft. They don’t seem interested in various free agent offerings, so I assume the draft is the likely path to reinforcing a position of need.
Jimmie Ward is back, with a new number, and played well when he did play. His age is a concern as are the multiple injuries he dealt with last season. He is going into the final year of his contract. Don’t give up on Jalen Pitre however he must play better. Pitre was bad last season, and if he doesn’t bounce back, there would be enough to move on from him. Eric Murray and M.J. Stewart are fine backups. Brandon Hill was the lone 2023 draftee who failed to contribute last season.
Investing in the safety spot would be wise for this season and beyond.
Where the Texans select in this draft is tailored to when the safety spot should start to come off the board. I believe every safety will be on the board or within shouting distance when the Texans get to make a pick in the second round.
These are where I am most comfortable taking some of the top names at safety.
