Texans Lose in Fashion That is Becoming All Too Familiar in DeMeco Ryans Era
Stop me if you've heard this one before...
The Houston Texans are 0-2 after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-19.
Here are 11 observations from the Monday Night Football loss.
Hope dissipated quickly after the Houston Texans scored early. They proceeded to fail repeatedly to be consistent on offense. Along the lines of last year, at some point, everyone was to blame for the offense. Then, after not allowing points for nearly 40 minutes, the defense allowed a touchdown as the backup running back bowled over defenders for the deciding score. The Texans once again helped their opponent beat them and lacked the ability to overcome their own miscues and mistakes.
C.J. Stroud was nowhere good enough against the Buccaneers. He missed Nico Collins in the end zone twice. One of those throws was on fourth down, and Stroud threw it out of bounds. DeMeco Ryans specifically noted the outcome of that play after the game. You have to give one of your best players a chance. Stroud often panics in the quest for self-preservation. The offensive line stinks, yes, but what Stroud is in control of also isn’t good right now. Baker Mayfield played this game with a patchwork offensive line and down a steady wideout and still did enough to will his team to victory. Stroud, currently, isn’t an elevator. He needs help as much as he needs to help his teammates.
