Texans With Some Potential Moving Pieces at Important Spots
The Texans have some big and small pieces to figure out ahead of Saturday
The Houston Texans have options if they choose to change their offensive line. Right guard Shaq Mason returned to practice. He had been out of action since the last game in Kansas City against the Chiefs. Juice Scruggs, after missing Tuesday’s practice, returned Wednesday.
The Texans didn’t show a first-team offensive line in practice. They can re-insert Mason at right guard if he is healthier than Scruggs. If both are healthy the Texans can mix and match how they see fit.
Scruggs can play center and Mason can play right guard if the Texans want to bench Jarrett Patterson. He hasn’t been bad at center but hasn’t been awesome.
Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik was noncommittal.
“I think it is a continuous work in progress,” he said. “We will see how Shaq [Mason] looks, we will see how Juice [Scruggs] looks, and we will see what looks like the best combination out of the five to have out there. That really is going to be an ongoing process through the rest of the week up until the game.”
The numbers might push the Texans one way. The Pro Football Focus grades for Mason and Scruggs are similar for the season but at right guard Mason has graded out better.
