The Houston Texans are now 7-5 after their 20-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Here are 11 observations from the close win.

  1. The Houston Texans are squarely in the hunt for the AFC South after this win. They’re a game behind the Colts in the division and will have a chance to earn the tiebreaker in the final game of the season. Houston gutted this win out, overcoming some self-inflicted wounds and mistakes. It felt very typical of a game they lost earlier in the year, but they held onto this one. The defense gave the ball back to the offense, needing just one first down, and the offense did it. Just two touchdowns and a bunch of kicking might not always be enough, but it is enough for the divisional win in this one.

  2. C.J. Stroud looked good for a guy who hadn’t played football for a month. There were certainly some rusty moments, but he handled himself well under center. There were a couple of plays in this one that there is no chance Davis Mills would have made those plays. There were still a few uncompetitive throws mixed in. The hope wasn’t perfection, but 276 yards and enough on the scoreboard works just fine. Stroud can certainly build off this performance.
