The Houston Texans Hang On as Defense Does Enough to Down Buffalo
The Bills nearly completed the comeback but Houston's defense sealed the win
The Houston Texans have a winning record for the first time this season after their 23-19 defeat of the Buffalo Bills. Houston is now 6-5.
Here are 11 observations from the win.
The defense held on and finished it. They were excellent nearly the whole day, with some occasional hiccups. In the end, they were enough to force Josh Allen into precarious positions and turn the Bills over three times. Allen never looked too comfortable. The offense for the Texans couldn’t close it out, but the defense did enough to make it happen. The defense might have some leaky moments, but they only allowed field goals after James Cook had the huge early run. That was one of the only breaks, but the rest was bending and enough to secure the win.
It felt all too familiar as Buffalo was marching down the field in the fourth quarter. The Texans had the Bills in 4th and 27 and allowed a conversion on a sleek play from Buffalo. The lateral worked to perfection, and the Bills ended the play deep in Texans territory. Houston allowed only nine more yards before Buffalo found themselves in fourth and six. Good pressure forced a bad throw, and Calen Bullock’s second interception of the day sealed the win and ended the Buffalo bid for a comeback.
