The Houston Texans continued their winning streak, tying a franchise record with their ninth straight victory. The Texans defeated the Indianapolis Colts 38-30.

Here are 11 observations from the regular season finale.

  1. The win streak started with Davis Mills, and it was pushed to nine by Mills. The backup quarterback saw all the action in the second half. A couple of pedestrian drives preceded the best drive of the day by Mills. The veteran backup found Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel on two passes to eat up the needed distance. British Brooks took care of the ball on the ground, setting up the Texans for their game-winning field goal attempt.

  2. Ka’imi Fairbairn was perfect on the day. He entered the day with 38 field goals. His six field goals pushed his season-long total to 44. That tied the most field goals ever in a season. The final kick was the initial punctuation to the end of the season. There were a couple of hiccups this season, but Fairbairn has been trusty and solid, even in cold weather, for most of the year. Running back Woody Marks simply said “automatic” when asked about his teammate.
