Tight Ends Top Day Three of Scouting Combine Interest
Options Up and Down the Draft Board for the Houston Texans
The Houston Texans could use some help with the tight end position. You have to imagine new offensive coordinator Nick Caley will have a special affinity for the position he used to coach.
Dalton Schultz underperformed last season making his contract look bloated and unnecessary. The blocking was the worst part. A return to a receiving-only setup could do him well in 2025.
Cade Stover had a productive season blocking in the run game while his blocking on passing plays struggled. Stover was among the best rookies in run blocking according to Pro Football Focus. His receiving needs to come along but some more seasoning, a better offense, and a real offseason should have him playing better.
Brevin Jordan will have a chance to be on the team coming off his knee injury. Jordan was primed for his best football but the injury robbed him of the breakout opportunity. Jordan’s contract is not large and it does nothing to guarantee he is on the team in 2025.
While I wouldn’t prioritize adding a tight end over various needs, this is a seemingly loaded class of tight ends. There should be a worthwhile player at tight end each time Houston is set to pick.
Here are some notes and observations from the podium day for the tight ends.
