The Houston Texans haven’t officially announced any of their offensive coordinator interviews but multiple reports indicate the team has two interviews in the book as of Monday.

Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson had completed his interview for the offensive coordinator position. Johnson’s relationship and potential make him a somewhat viable candidate. It is also good to hear someone from the disappointing offense speak freely about what was wrong as he saw it.

He also needs to answer for his role in the issues on offense. C.J. Stroud hat setbacks in areas Johnson would be responsible like footwork and seeing answers on offense. Johnson has to explain where he went wrong as much as what he could do right with the Texans.

He’s light on experience and hasn’t ever called plays, but I understand Johnson getting an interview.

Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon has far more experience than Johnson.

Nixon’s offense was the 21st-scoring offense in college football and the top passing attack. They were also near the bottom in rushing offense. He’s called plays at Baylor (27th in scoring offense in 2019) and briefly for the Carolina Panthers (13.6 points per game). Nixon previously coached under Andy Reid and Chip Kelly.

Nixon’s varied history, and recent success, make him an intriguing candidate. While college coordinating is different, creating answers for the quarterback is key. Stroud
