Grading the depth of the Texans
The Houston Texans re-signed Jerry Hughes this week bringing back the veteran defensive end to a roster much deeper than the one he left when his contract expired.
As I was thinking about Hughes’ fit with the Texans it struck me he is far from a guarantee to make the roster when there was a chance a year ago he was set to be heavily relied upon. It’s a stark contrast in a short time and demonstrated the depth improvement for the Texans.
Below I graded the depth at each position. The rubric includes how good the players who might be depth, what type of drop-off exists if a starter should miss time, how many options the team has at the position, and how easy it would be to acquire a different player or players for the position.
