The Houston Texans feel their little mistakes are correctable and have scratched just the surface. It was a small thing here and there last week that kept the team from doing exactly what they wanted and showcasing their potential.
Oh, and they think the defense will fix itself too.
Did you think the first few lines were about the defense? It could have been, but the offense talked about how they left plenty on the field all week. The 2020 Houston Texans talked better about their offense than the current team about their performance last Sunday.
Joe Mixon had 159 yards last week but talked about his performance like his output was missing a third digit. C.J. Stroud stressed the team did well but only after they stopped self-inflicted wounds during their offensive performance.
Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s criticism of the rushing attack, which exploded onto the scene with over 200 yards rushing, made it seem like the 2023 rushing attack reappeared.
“There were some technique and fundamental things we definitely could clean up,” Slowik said. “I know Joe had some one-on-one ops in the hole that he would like back. And just little things like even how we have a track on a certain play, or what our angle is on a combination up to the second level. We were off and we still got some good plays out of it. But if we were on it, to us, we see explosives. So, we felt like we missed a few of those.”
The passing game earned his critique as well.
“And then in the pass game, the pass game was a little bit of everything. Protection was some physical and a lot of mental that we had to be on top of. And really it was the same route-wise, all the way across the board. It was a lot more inconsistent than the run game was.”
So despite one of the most complete performances since the DeMeco Ryans era began, the Texans believe there is another level to their potential.
Sunday Night Football hosting the Chicago Bears would be a great time to showcase that potential. This is the first of the six primetime or standalone games this season. Plenty of players are excited for the eyes of the NFL world to be on this game. Nico Collins was pumped up to try to repeat his impressive week one. Tank Dell said he’s built for games like this.
The offense was good last week, but it should be great if these critical Texans correct their mistakes.
Score Prediction
The Texans will win 35-16. The Texans are not the Titans. If Houston gets up big, they will keep scoring unlike Tennessee last week. They will not make numerous mistakes to allow Chicago back into the game. Even with Chicago getting some positive movement to rookie wideout Rome Odunze playing in this game, they don’t have enough to go toe-to-toe against the Texans. The game starts close but doesn’t finish that way.
Juice must be good to go 🏈
Hey Cody....You forgot about our Defense...and Special Teams in your scoring totals.....I'm thinking you are at least 2 defensive scores and a FG short.
I also think you are giving those bear cub rookies more credit than you should......I think Da Bears will be lucky to score 6......He was lucky to get a soft start to his career playing a powder puff team.....
We are not the Titans.
I'm thinking we give Da Bears a 52-6 butt whipping!!!!
I see a HUGE STATEMENT WIN in front of the Home Crowd, the rest of the NFL and America!!!
I think we will be the BIG topic with the talking heads all next week...........
Right next to the Saints who seem to be handing Dallas their asses using a VERY familiar offensive scheme.....LMAO!!!!
KEEPING THE FAITH!!!
GO TEXANS!!!
