Texans at Jets: Final Thoughts and Score Prediction
Will the Texans get a treat or will the Jets have enough tricks to win?
The Houston Texans are playing on Halloween. It’s a scary situation for them on offense.
Losing Stefon Diggs for the year was always going to hurt. Losing Diggs before a short week and before the return of Nico Collins was extremely unfortunate. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik has to figure out how to operate what is now one of the least impressive wideout rooms in football.
Not only is it a short week with massive changes to the way the wide receivers work, but the offensive line’s blocking is still shaky, specifically at left guard. The Texans have not indicated they’ll be benching Green. He now faces one of the best defensive linemen he will see all year: Quinnen Williams. Williams could create a “Nightmare on MetLife Stadium Dr” for the Texans against Green.
Slowik and head coach DeMeco Ryans can’t allow Green to ruin the offensive game plan.
As scary as things are for the Texans, I would be more fearful of this matchup if I were the Jets.
The Texans boast two defensive ends that play like a horror movie villain. Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees never stop going after helpless protagonists. Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter have displayed similar relentlessness in rushing the quarterback. Aaron Rodgers isn’t anywhere as mobile as he used to be. I believe Anderson, Hunter, and their other teammates on the defensive line will terrorize Rodgers as if he gave out toothbrushes and floss instead of candy to the neighborhood.
The teams are in similar situations overall. Solid defensive lines and rushing attacks will need to hold up inconsistent passing games helmed by quarterbacks who at any moment can deliver football treats akin to getting a full-size candy bar on Halloween.
The Jets have a little more juice at wide receiver than the Texans. Houston has a little more on defense than New York.
It’s a scary spot for both teams as they try to survive like your favorite horror movie main character.
Score Prediction
The Texans will win 20-13. There is a decent chance the Jets could open up a 55-gallon drum of quit. They have lost five straight games and no measure of hope has helped them get back on track. An early start for the Texans might make this a rout in the second half. I can’t see the Texans getting rolling that quickly though. I believe the defense will slow down the Jets, but I don’t think the offense has some tough challenges early. They do enough though and get out of Thursday Night Football healthy and with a win.
I think our backup receiers.....Metchie and Hutch....know they have to step up and I also think we will all be pleasantly surprised when they do.
Not to forget.....Mighty Mouse will also be in the house!!!
Because of Nico and Diggs getting the RAT'S share of the targets up till now there hasn't been very much cheese going his way.....TONIGHT that will change....CJ and MM will get that old black magic going again!!!
And of course.....Don't forget about Mixon running like a wild man.....and Shultz and Stover....They can play pretty well too!!!
As for Kenyon Green....I'd give him no more than 2 series to find his testicles....If he can't man up and handle Williams by then I'd put in Kendrick Green....and if that doen't work out.......then it's time to shuffle Tytus to left guard and put Fisher at right tackle.....Fisher hasn't done too bad in his limited snaps so far and I think he would jump at the opportunity to shine. If we can pull this off and win then we have 10 days to maybe get Patterson back and move Tytus back home and put Fisher back on the shelf in standby mode.
As for Aaron Rodgers.......He's going to be green eggs on toast!!! I personally do not expect him to even make it to the third quarter.......That old grey mule just ain't what it used to be and after Will and Hunter, et al, get after him I expect a few (3 or more) turnovers from strip sacks or errant throws that will give us some short fields and easy points.
I see our offense (and the defense???) scoring 24 points or more.....and the Jets getting no more than 10.
Texans come home 7-2.....Then things start getting tough.
KEEPING THE FAITH!!!!
GO TEXANS!!!!
