Texans vs Jaguars: Final Thoughts and Score Prediction
This one is all about the Texans and not the Jaguars
This game is about the Houston Texans. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is in this one.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are the team on the schedule, but it could be anyone. The defending Super Bowl Champions from Kansas City, the reigning MVP Lamar Jackson, or the hottest team in the NFL from Buffalo - it wouldn’t matter who.
This is about the Texans.
DeMeco Ryans and his team have had a week to figure out what happened in Minnesota. It was among the worst performances by a Ryans-led team in his short time as a head coach.
Ryans showcased his ability to coach the team up last season after massive disappointments. A home shellacking at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts gave way to an upset of the Jaguars on the road. Offensive ineptitude in Carolina was the genesis for an offensive explosion against the Buccaneers. The best example of resiliency was gutting out a win in Tennessee against the Titans without C.J. Stroud after the Jets had dismantled them the week before.
The penalties need to be cleaned up. Four straight offensive line penalties last week were embarrassing. Three other mistakes erased big plays. Houston is the third-most penalized team in the league. Execution was a buzzword this week. That would go a long way in limiting those self-inflicted wounds.
Consistency has been hard to come by for the Texans outside of the rushing attack against the Colts. The offense has sputtered and settled for field goals. Only Nico Collins has been able to get going in all three games through the air. The rushing attack non-existent since week one.
There was a lot to clean up. It won’t all be better in one week, but development and progress need to be present. The Texans have often pointed to a team finding itself a few weeks into the season, well, one month of the season without what was supposed to be possible from this team would be concerning.
Score Prediction
The Texans will win 28-21. Not everything gets cleaned up in one week, but there is enough to feel like the Texans can and will head in the correct direction as a team. The Jaguars don’t have enough to keep the Texans off the scoreboard. Trevor Lawrence makes a few throws but misses enough to keep Jacksonville out of this one. Three wins in the first quarter of the season is a solid start, though it doesn’t win many style points.
I’m not so concerned with style, just win baby!
I still have my Tunsil concerns.
Like I've been saying since the last few games of last year......I believe LT's knees are toast.....Drafting Fisher makes me think the Texans felt the same way.
Tunsil NEEDS to get a jump or a few inches of extra depth because he doesn't have the speed out of his stance anymore......Watch him rock back before the snap. I see it and so do the refs AND the defenders. He telegraphs pass plays.
This may sound COMPLETELY bat shit crazy........but MAYBE we should consider lining him up and reporting as a tight end strictly on passing downs so he can line up deep enough to be effective???? With Fisher AND LT covering CJ's backside he would have ALL DAY to find an open receiver.....LMAO!!!!!
Anyway, I still think our Defense is borderline elite and the Glitter Kitties won't be able to score more than one TD.....and MAYBE an extra long range FG.
I think our offense will score AT LEAST 2 TDs, one early and one later, along with having at least two drives stalled into FGs because of LT's multiple penalties.
I think we will start seeing CJ looking into his rear view mirror more often instead of scanning downfield as his confidence in LT's ability to have his back faulters.......Not having an effective running game puts a HUGE target on CJ's back and he knows it.
I hope I'm wrong
23-10 Texans
STILL KEEPING THE FAITH!!!
GO TEXANS!!!!
