I went to overthecap.com and if I'm correct, the Kirksey and King cuts shave about eight million off of the cap. We were ten million (and change) under before those cuts, so we have a significant amount of spending money if we wanted to add a significant player on waivers this week. What I always find fascinating about new coaches is what they choose to value. They are literally beholden to no one as they don't have any of "their guys" yet. It might be the most honest and coolest evaluations of a coaching tenure.
I'd say I'm encouraged overall because some of the guys that are cut are solid football players. None of them are special though and I think the biggest takeaway is that most of the interior defenders (outside of Collins) are now gone. This team surrendered more rushing yards than any team in my lifetime (I will turn 50 this year). Granted, it was in a 17 game schedule, but it's hard to employ the same people that gave you that and just say, "we think the scheme will fix it."
You were right....Green in sick bay. He had better thank his lucky stars.....and he had better thank DeMeco for giving him the extra chance to come back healthy and prove himself.
If he were a cat...he had better keep his eyes open for dogs, coyotes and cars because he is on his 9th life right now.
Overall I like the announced 53......I also see some lower depth meat still on the chopping block when Nick and Meco see some of the cuts made on other teams...mostly on the O-Line, LB and DB spots.
I admit to having a bit of a man crush on Case....However, I liked what I saw from EJ Perry....I thought he had much better touch and accuracy than Mills and should have been kept to push him for the QB2 spot....Case should have been kept on as a paid staff member as a QB Coach....It's time for that transition to happen I think? Sorta like me....His mind is still in the game but the body just aint there anymore....LOL
My sad to see go were Littleton, Dieter and Lopez.....Especially Dieter and Lopez....Dieter did a pretty good job of keeping CJ clean against NO and would have been a good OL depth piece in my opinion....and Lopez has always been a good rotational DL guy too....Litteton just was in the tub too much but when healthy he was a DAWG!!....at least on film.
It's going to be interesting to see the cut/waiver shuffle coming up.....There is always some servicable depth swimming around in that pond.....Let's see who they can get in the boat.
GO TEXANS!!!!......2023 is gonna be FUN TO WATCH!!
Clearly the left guard situation is unsettled. In retrospect, they should have signed a veteran with experience as a starter but it is reasonable to ask whether they could have foreseen Kenyon Green being unusable back in March. That’s ultimately what makes Monday morning quarterbacking so hard. I have to grade based on what they knew then and not on what we know now. At the very least the focus now is on putting the best guy out there and not on player development.
To me I thought they saw it coming on draft day when they picked up Juice and Patterson.
All in all our OTs, RG and Center are set in stone for right now....The only glaring hole at the moment is LG and depth in case of any more injuries.
To me Juice was going to push out Quiz cuz he sucked BAD and Patterson was to step in for Green if he didn't pan out.....Quiz is gone and Green seems to have 9 lives at this point...Patterson got dinged eary in camp but is back working so he should be ready by week two......Now we gotta work on depth.
Personally I think our roster is solid.....regardless of our WR youth. I think they will shock people with their route running skills and CJ's timing and accuracy.
Slowik is keeping some tricks up his sleeves......
Our strong running game is gonna open up the pass game for sure.
It's what this style of offense is famous for and Slowik's variation to it IMO is going to make it even more exciting.
I still want someone to replace Faint cuz he isn't any good so his spot is available IMO for a new prospect off waivers.
Maybe or maybe they were both center candidates and depth. Green gets a second and third chance. That’s what happens with first rounders. I’m okay with it and think they made the right decision based on what they know now.
I figure you'll analyze the initial 53, of r wait for the waiver claims. My second team is Pittsburgh, and my brother is a die-hard fan. It would be a great story for Kendrick Green to find his home in the outside zone. Give me some hope.
I'll try to paint some hope. Pittsburgh drafted an undersized guard and plugged him into a power scheme at center. Doesn't mean we'll get anything out of him, but he was miscast at either Center or Guard for the Steelers.
Demeco's comments raised an eyebrow for me on Green's status to start the season.
Now we know!
Yep!!

I agree....Since we get the second choice of what is out there Nick and Meco can be selective.
I agree with some of the needed turnover.

Dieter surprised me a lot. Still a lot of smoke to clear.

Yeah Green seems to have been injured during camp so tough to predict.

Big Ben didn't seem too fond of Kendrick Green.

They certainly have some hope for him.
Alright so I’m caught up, they actually put Boone on the practice squad. So is Dare Ogunbowale really the third back?
